Epiphany Journal

Have you ever been up until 3 am unable to sleep?  For me, when those endless nights drag on, it is also the times I have amazing (to me, anyway) epiphanies.  For others, they may come while reading a book, gardening or cooking,  or maybe in the shower.

I usually forget these significant moments and the motivation and inspiration that comes with them quickly wanes.   I am sure the information is in my subconcious somewhere but it is not quite as useful if I could use it in my day-to-day life.

I have decided to keep a journal next to my bed (small enough that I can toss it into my cluttered, seemingly bottomless purse) to jot down my lightbulb moments.

With this priceless book I will be able to reread and memorize my deepest thoughts and incorporate those fleeting feelings of light, hope, and invigorating clarity into my life.

It will be just another little tool to help me on my journey to discovering and aligning my actions with my authentic self.

Are there any particular times, places, or activities that spur "epiphanies" for you?

Mother's Day

WORKING MOTHER — Any mother who gets out of bed.

This Mother's Day I decided to paint my mother a bird house.   I got spanish moss, a little white bird, a nest and eggs from A.C. Moore to jazz it up a bit.  It was a simple, therapeutic, fun project.  What is it about something made from our hands and hearts-as opposed to an expensive gift -that can bring tears to a mother's eyes?

Turning a Nearly Empty Cup into a Cup Full of AIR (a Life-sustaining neccesity!)

Kids say the darnedest things.  I was observing a room full of  18 second graders during a group lesson on community building.  The students were imagining that there were three people running for mayor of their community.  The first candidate said he was going to build a skate park.  The second candidate said she was going to build an animal shelter.  The third candidate said he was going to build a mall.  The students all voted for the person who would make the best mayor based on what they wanted to add to the community.

The results:
9 students voted for the animal shelter mayor.
7 voted for the mall mayor.
2 voted for the skate park mayor.

During the follow up discussion the question was asked, "How does someone who voted for the skate park feel right now?"

A chubby boy with a blond bowl haircut hesitantly raised his hand.  "I feel kinda sad ...because.... we only got two," he stammered. "But I also feel happy because  we came in third place!"  As he said this his tone shifted from confused about saying the expected answer to overjoyed to be a 'winner'.

We don't always win. Some of us hardly ever do. The best way to not be disappointed by life is to be satisfied with what we have and are given.... then everything else will be just gravy!

What Makes You Beautiful?

Does your smile light up the room?

Do you have soft hands that draw people nearer to you when you touch them?

We all know that exterior beauty is important. We also know that interior beauty is infinitely more significant.

Lately, I have been focusing on aligning the two; merging inner and outer beauty. I have found that this increases my confidence and I feel connected to my authentic self.

A dear friend of mine is a nurturer. She is a gentle mother with love and generosity bursting through her personality.  She also has the softest, most delicate hands I have ever seen or felt.  I have also heard her husband tell her she should be a hand model.  Her soft hands help represent her true warm and kind-hearted nature.

Melissa Rycroft, the rejected Bachelor fiancĂ©e turned America’s dancing sweetheart has dazzling white teeth. She lights the room with her smile. Many people are drawn to her cheerful, bubbling attitude which is physically portrayed through her ever-smiling mouth.

What are the best aspects of your inner self, your personality? How can you align these attributes with your exterior attributes?  Many times you will find they are naturally associated. If you are a strong person on the inside you may find that you have strong physical features.  If not, tone up those legs and arms! If you are free-spirited woman, let that hair down!

This connects you with yourself leaving you feeling more secure in your own skin.

It also helps people concretely relate to you. They can see, touch, smell, even taste or hear your genuine self shining though. That is, indeed, where true beauty is found.

Introductions

Hello!

I decided to create this blog because, as we all know, it is the little things that mean the most in life.  Let us open our eyes to the seemingly insignificant thus opening our hearts to the beauty of life and all it has to offer.

I will be posting about small moments in my life and in the world that have an impact on me...something that taught me something, ingnited my curiousity, or simply made me laugh.  Please email me with any small moment experiences you have (with the subject heading "small moment" and I will be delighted to devote a post to you.

As you visit this blogsite I welcome you to comment with 5 things that you love...big or small.

Five things that I love:
  1. My beautiful daughter
  2. Reading
  3. Funny sitcoms
  4. Lightbulb moments
  5. Office supplies

My hope is to create an interactive community so if you have anything to add, please speak up!
Enjoy the rest of your weekends!
